City of Runaway Bay Public Notice
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has notified the City of Runaway Bay that recent testing showed our drinking water exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM).
This notice is not an emergency. Residents do not need to use an alternate water source.
However, we are required to inform you of the results and the steps we are taking.
What Happened
Testing from the 3rd Quarter of 2025 indicated an average TTHM level above the state and federal limit at specific sample locations:
100.3 mg/L — Land
89.3 mg/L — Shady Oaks & Port O’Call
TTHMs form when chlorine used for water disinfection reacts with naturally occurring organic matter in the water.
Health Information
Long-term exposure above the regulatory limits may increase the risk of liver, kidney, or nervous system issues and may increase cancer risk.
If you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.
What We’re Doing
The City has already taken corrective actions, including:
Increased flushing of water lines through hydrants
Optimized chlorination procedures at the treatment facility
We will continue system adjustments and testing to ensure compliance.
What You Should Do
No action is required from residents at this time.
Please share this information with anyone who drinks our water but may not receive this notice, including renters or business owners.
